As a result, Little 5 Points (L5P) became one of the first commercial districts outside of downtown Atlanta & in the early 1920’s was designated a commercial area by the City of Atlanta. By the 1930's, many successful businesses in L5P included movie theaters, grocery and drug stores, barbershops, and restaurants. L5P eventually grew into an avant garde arts & shopping district, serving in-town neighborhoods.
By the 1960's, L5P was struggling economically. With the proposal of a highway coming through, L5P started deteriorating. In 1975, the City awarded community grants to L5P, followed by funds for public improvements. By the 1990's Little 5 Points was booming. The City funds, studies and the entrepreneurial spirit of community-based businesses helped spur the revitalization of Little 5 Points.
2022 marks the 50th anniversary of the Little 5 Points Business Association! 50 years ago a group of young pioneers took over the L5P Men's Business Association and created the Little 5 Points Business Association (L5PBA). They met in the basement of the old L5P Library, which is on the tour, and brainstormed ideas of what the area could become. Today, the L5P Business Association is a non profit organization whose mission is to promote the business interests of our members by educating them, providing networking opportunities, organizing events, marketing and promoting L5P. We organize the L5P Halloween Festival & Parade each year, among dozens of other events, markets, cultural experiences, and clean ups. If you would like to support us in shaping L5P's future by preserving our artsy, funky, historic neighborhood, please donate to https://l5pba.com/donate OR Venmo @LittleFivePoints-Halloween OR PayPal @l5phparade.
On this tour, we will explore the architecture and the legacy businesses that are in existence today.

This building was formerly the L5P Carnegie Library, and fifty years ago the L5P Business Association started holding meetings in the basement. Today, Wish is a premier clothing store known for limited edition footwear brands alongside unique, fashion pieces from international designers.

Descend into the basement sneaker vault through a stairway made from 10,000 books. The basement holds two chambers. The room within a room is a concept of Biblioteques of Europe which had an archival sealed room within the library that contained the most prized possessions. The 2nd chamber is reminiscent of a safety deposit box vault meant to house valuables. This honors the cultural importance of sneakers while also recalling the building’s original identity as a Carnegie library.

Customers will pass through a monolithic portal into the first chamber, which features alternating glass panels and gold-leafed sneaker displays that reference medieval reliquaries. The room, which is constructed to reveal the building’s original granite foundation, will naturally draw viewers’ eyes to the shoes on display. Ten tons of river rock boulders complement this space, carved into seating by stone artisans from the granite capital of the world, Elberton, GA. In a second chamber, the walls are lined with a custom fabricated stainless steel matrix housing individual shoes in cubbies that reference safety deposit boxes.

Located in the Point Center building, Star Community Bar was founded in 1991 by the infamous Keeper brothers, otherwise known as Dave Heany and Marty Nolan. The space was formerly occupied by C&S Bank, and one of the old bank vaults is now a shrine to Elvis. Heany and Nolan sold the bar in the early 2000’s before passing away in 2018 and 2021, respectively. Star Bar features local and national touring acts 5 nights a week and Rotknee Presents comedy every Monday, the longest running amateur comedy night in the city. You'll be hard pressed to find a more reasonably priced bar in the city.

Abbadabba's is located in the historic Point Center Building which was built in 1925. The building is located along a former trolley line and is currently commercial with street-level retail and offices above.

But don’t let the quirky name fool you, Abbadabba’s is Atlanta’s premier source in innovative comfort footwear. Abbadabba’s offers unique, funky, eco and vegan friendly shoes.

Abbadabba’s, owned and managed by Janice Abernathy and her husband Bill Carmichael, opened in 1981. In the beginning, the store was like a flea market, selling toys, cards, gifts, and jewelry and to the back, a small selection of funky looking shoes. However, those funny looking shoes caught on, and in 1986, Bill left a career with Georgia-Pacific to join Janice full-time and make footwear their main focus. A year later those shoes were their top seller.

Since then Abbadabba's has grown into Buckhead and Roswell, bringing Little 5 Points culture in to more \"elite\" and \"posh\" districts.

Abbadabba’s is about people: the people working for them and the diverse group of people making up their customer base. The service focused company has a passion for footwear which they share with their customers. Their mission is pampering customers with quality service not found in most retail stores.

Working with faultless integrity, Abbadabba’s is a progressive company with sustainable business practices and a healthy respect for people and the planet. Visit online at http://littlefivepoints.net/abbadabba's.
